Individual Counseling

Each person is unique, and resolving the underlying causes of your mood and/or anxiety disorder requires an in-depth, personalized analysis.

1

We'll start with your personal story and then build a detailed picture of current health status by reviewing previous medical history and labs; family history; medication and supplement history; and diet and lifestyle habits.  Specialty lab testing may also be used to further clarify imbalances.

2

After a thorough analysis, we'll work together to create a customized action plan to address your specific needs and circumstances.  Areas of focus may include food and supplements, eating behavior support, physical activity targets, stress management techniques, and sleep strategies.

3

In follow up sessions we'll reevaluate the plan and make adjustments as needed to optimize change.  Fundamental to the program's success are education, ongoing support and monitoring, and therapeutic collaboration with medical and behavioral health practitioners as needed.

  • Do you offer sliding scale?
To make personalized nutrition care more accessible, I offer a limited number of sliding scale slots. If you or someone you know needs a reduced rate, please book a Discovery Call to see if we are a good fit. If I do not have a current opening, I may be able to direct you to other resources.
  • Do you take insurance?
I currently accept Out of Network (OON) benefits and am in the process of obtaining In Network (IN) credentialling from insurers. If you would like to explore OON benefits, I can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement or FSA/HSA spending.
  • Is this therapy?
The relationship can "feel" therapeutic as we explore your relationship with food. However, I am not a therapist. If you seek nutrition counseling to support your mental health, I recommend when possible that you also work with a mental health practitioner. I am happy to coordinate care with them, and if needed I can help you find one as part of our work together. Note: I am not a licensed medical or mental health practitioner. I do not diagnose any disease or assist with prescription management.
  • Where do you work?
I am in New Jersey but work virtually using a HIPAA-compliant portal in many states. Due to nutrition laws, I am unable to provide nutrition counseling in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Tennessee.
  • Can we work together if I have an Eating Disorder diagnosis?
Possibly. I work with individuals who are medically-stable, ready for virtual outpatient, and on the spectrum from disordered eating to ED diagnosis. If we determine during our time together that you need a higher level of care than I can provide, I'll work with you to find appropriate resources.
  • How long does this take?
Meaningful change in well-established behaviors and chronic health conditions takes time. I work with clients for an average of 4 -6 months but it may be longer when ongoing support is needed.

Testimonials

"I struggle with my relationship with food because I am not happy with my appearance.  The process has helped me open up more about food and how I feel.  Having calm discussions instead of lectures is also a better way for me to handle difficult situations.  I don’t feel judged for the things I open up about."

L.O., 15

"I am grateful for all the support my daughter has had since starting with Food for Mood.  We have seen positive results due to weekly sessions.  Teenagers are hard to connect with and Cyndi does a great job creating a safe space for my daughter."

Mom

"I wanted to work on my relationship with food due to anxiety.  I liked being able to take things at my own pace through challenges to work on each week.  The process is very individualized and does not solely focus on food.  Your goals are targeted holistically and are aligned with your values."

C.C., 25

"I was trying to understand the impacts of nutrition on how I was feeling.  Every week, Cyndi and I tackled a particular issue, and made specific recommendations to alter and augment eating habits in moderate and attainable ways.  By making simple changes I made big gains."

T.S., 46
